I would lose about 3cm of the length, keeping the outline round to compensate for your square shape face. I would then layer it more chopping into the hair, as you need texture as well as fullness.
Finally I would connect the outline in as it looks like you have 2 lengths at the side and create more shape round your face by cutting into your fringe and the sides of your hair.
If you like my idea, I would print this up and show it to your hairstylist or barber!

Hi Xavier, after looking at your photo on facebook, I recommend that you slightly change your hairstyle. It looks like you have dried your wavy or curly hair straight. (unless it’s naturally dead straight) I feel that you need to have some volume placed in your hair as it looks very flat. I wouldn’t go to short either as you have a square face shape and it may make your jaw line and face too square.

  4. Stuart Phillips says

Although I would layer it a bit more than your photo, as he wears it very heavy and that much hair may annoy you, especially if you had to dry it a few times a week!!
    Stuart

  5. Stuart Phillips says

Hi Kareem, after looking at the pic you sent me on facebook I feel that as long as your hair isn’t too wavy then you can go for that particular style. It means that you would still need to dry it straight each time you wash your hair, or you could have a permanent hair relaxer.
In this video Ben has wavy hair, and being similar to the photo you showed me you could also wear it with a slight wave

Hi Stuart, how are you doing? I’ve got a question regarding a select hairstyle. Also, I’ve got wavy hair, so will that be a major factor when it comes to this hairstyle? Anyways, please check your Facebook for the picture that I’ve sent you. Thanks.

Hi, no problem, if you upload a recent photo of you from the front, I will be able to give you some advice! Do you mean styling tips though, or how to get your hair like the photo that your friend Luis sent me?

hey its me luis diaz friends…. wanted 2 know about a tip for that long fair pic luis send you…. PLS N THXS

    Thank you

although this depends on the texture of your hair, which your stylist would be able to guide you on that! I think once it’s grown a bit and with the right cut it would look better left natural, at least that would save you time on straightening it. For your natural hair I would use a dry wax like L’Oreal (tech-ni-art) CLAY. Just use a tiny bit and massage it in on dry hair!
    Hope that helps!
    Stuart

  11. Stuart Phillips says

Hi Luis, after looking at your photo I would grow it longer, reason being I think that your wave looks good, although your hair is far too heavy at the top and sides to wear it like that.
I would first of all take some weight from the top, back and sides but leave the length at the back and sides. Without physically seeing your hair I can just give you an approximate length, I would say you possibly could grow it another 5-10 cm,

The best mat wax around is CLAY by L’Oréal tecni.art

  15. RocknSoulful says

    Thank you very much!

  16. KrkNwProductions says

Speaking of mat wax do you recommend any specific product?

  17. Stuart Phillips says

You should tell your barber how I’ve described above because as he knows the outside length, they will layer it accordingly. For extra info tell them to slice into the layers as this will give it more of a textured look! A good wax is L’Oreal, Tec-ni-art called Clay, only use a tiny amount of this as too much will tend to go greasy

    Stuart

  18. RocknSoulful says

thank you it helped.. one more question… if i go to my barber how should i tell him to cut for me like the layers and the sides… what what wax u recommend me to buy?

  19. Stuart Phillips says

Hi, Ian Somerhalder wears his hair as a medium length cut, basically the hairline at the back is about 1-2 cm passed his hairline, the sides grown to almost half way down his ears. The fringe is about 2 cm above his eyebrows and he wears it pushed to one side with no parting, he literally pushes the fringe across. To style his probably used a dry wax and then messed it up to give it a slightly scruffy look
    Hope that helped
    Stuart

  20. RocknSoulful says

Hey Stuart phillips do u have any idea how i could cuts my hair like ian somerhalder am letting it grow how could i start cutting it so it form like that? thank you very much! =) love your videos.

  21. Stuart Phillips says

Once your happy with the shape, I would than use a small amount of a mat wax lifting your hair out at the roots giving it even more body!
    Stuart

  22. Stuart Phillips says

Hi Darren, after looking at you photo I feel to give it more shape I would first cut a small amount off the back and sides, around 2-3cm, then I would grow your layers down about the same amount. Basically your hair is too layered for the length of your hair, so what happens, the sides and back tend to look flat. I still think you look good with some length and wouldn’t suggest you going short but that small amount off with the slightly longer layers should help.

    Ok thank you

  29. Stuart Phillips says

There’s different prices depending on who cuts your hair! It starts at £40 by a regular stylist and goes up to £115 which is my price!
    Stuart

  30. cristhian9hdh says

How much would a hair cut like this cost

  31. Stuart Phillips says

Hi, on average hair grows about 1.2cm a month, so to reach the length of Nate’s hair in the video from a short buzcut, your looking around 4-5 months max!
You mentioned lower down on your comment that it’s now fairly long but not as long as Nate’s hair, in that case your probably looking to grow it for another couple of months!

  32. Stuart Phillips says

Once you have washed your hair if you comb it back or to the sides and place a small amount of gel in and once dry, if you can easily see your scalp then you have thin hair.
In the video Nate has fairly thin hair but the new style that I created helped to thicken it up!
    Stuart

  33. xXMisterWhiskersXx says

Hi, I had been getting fades (almost like buzcuts) but I have now wanted to grow my hair like the guy in this video you uploaded “Men’s Hairstyles For Medium Hair, How To Cut Hair In Layers ✂ Short Choppy Haircut Tutorial”. How long will it take (your opinion) for me to get my hair long like that and then shape it like that? I’m 17 years old, white, hair is somewhat long but not close the guy in the video.

Also how do you know if you have thin hair or thick hair?

  34. Stuart Phillips says

Hi Matthew, If I was to open a salon in a different country then the states would be my first choice. At present I’m just focussing on my London salon and my new TV show!!
    Stuart

  35. Matthew Bellant says

Hey Stuart have you considered coming to the United States and opening a salon here

  36. Stuart Phillips says

Hi Matthew, of course thank you
    Stuart

  37. Stuart Phillips says

Hi, a fade in could work as it would minimise the point at the back, although the stylist would have to be very careful in blending it into the heavier parts of the hair above that point and also in blending the sides into the back. Depending on your face shape, this will determine how short to go on the sides, I mention this because if you go short in the back then the sides will also need to be blended in and your face must be able to suit this, if not then I’d leave the back and sides longer!

  38. Matthew Bellant says

Hey Stuart, if i came over there, id be honored if you would cut my hair. Would you be up to it?

  39. GHpwners101 says

Hey I’m a guy and my hair kind of curls in to a point in the back. It looks weird and I can’t fix it, do you think getting like a fade in the back would work?

  40. Stuart Phillips says

Hi Danny, yes I do all types of hair including asian.
The prices start at £40 a haircut, with a few prices in-between, depending on who’s cutting your hair, as we have different grades of stylists.
    I charge £115 for men!

  41. Danny Khoo says

hi stuart, do you do asian hairstyle?
usually what are the charges like for men?
    thanks

  42. ShutYourMouthBiotch says

what products do you use to style

  43. Stuart Phillips says

I sometimes get asked to do hair seminars where a certain salon in the UK will invite me over and I teach there staff. I have also given demonstrations at Salon International, which is based in the UK! Are you a stylist based in the UK or USA?
    Stuart

  44. isisbenny404 says

Do you ever give classes on how to cut at hair shows?

  45. Stuart Phillips says

Hi, even though your skin is lighter than Kieran’s you can still have the same colour as him, although make sure your stylist doesn’t go any lighter as that may wash you out and make your skin look a bit pasty!!
    Stuart

  46. Stuart Phillips says

Nate’s haircut would also suit if you have a round face, although I would leave it a touch longer at the back and sides!!

  47. hotrodharry222 says

My skin is whiter than Kieran’s could I get away with the same colour?

  48. Stuart my hair is similar to Nate’s but I have a rounder face, could I get away with the same cut?

  49. Jaytheman2100 says

Nate’s hair looks so much thicker after it was cut and coloured, I would love Stuart to do my hair one day, even if it means flying from USA!!

  50. larsstenson15 says

This video is so F…ing cool; I’ve never seen a hair video with live music before! This hairdresser Stuart must be so well connected!!
