Organic / Natural make-up look

Watch this video on my site www.lisae.me.uk for product links, tips and more info. I’ve been asked many times if I ever use organic and natural make-up brands in my kit. As much as i would love to use all organic make-up I find that the range of colours in these brands is often too limiting for professional work (particularly in terms of foundation shades and textures). Due to the fact that many of the chemical ingredients and silicones are omitted there will always be certain textures and pigment types which they cannot achieve. However, the market for these ranges is growing and they are improving all the time in terms of their formulations and colour palettes. I’ve included my current favourite natural brands Lavera, one of the best out there, along with well established Dr Hauschka. These are brands I have used personally for years. I havent touched on the subject of animal testing (suffice to say all the brands mentioned have animal welfare high on their list), as its such a huge subject. Working in the industry I know more about this than most but its not something i can cover and do justice to in a short video. Ditto the use of silicone in cosmetics. I did include all my thoughts on silicone in this video but it was 25 minutes long! I don’t have a problem with silicone myself, its worked its way through the medical industry for years before making it into cosmetics but its up to you to make your mind up for yourself. The look i’m creating is very simple and

This was fantastic. Thank you for posting. Would like to see more tutorials about what to look for in organic makeup. I liked your helpful comments on silicon. Too bad for those who have sensitivities to silicon.

can you do one using wholly mineral makeup? I know these products are organic but they still have a loooong list of ingredients with added stuffs. I’m new to mineral makeup and it’s such a scary world! I have no idea which comes first because everything’s basically just powder?! hope you can help, I LOVE your work! thanks so much xxx

This was an awesome tutorial. I’ve lately been using the newish Lush make up which has some bright colours. My favourites have been vibrance (sparkly orange), calm (turquoise/light blue) and fantasy (gold). Calm and fantasy are both eyeliners and vibrance is a lip colour ( I have used it on my eyes and cheeks). Any way please can you do another natural make up look.

So the simple solution would be to support natural cosmetics so that more people try it out and start buying it, then the brands could expand their range. But as I said some organic brands are already quite up to date like Alverde, Lavera isn’t too bad either and I also like the brand “benecos” which is also available in several European countries.

  10. drommetenrot says

Oh and I wanted to say that there is a very affordable natural cosmetic brand in Germany, Austria and some other European countries called “Alverde”, which has a wide range of products with fashionable colours and frequent limited editions to chose from. So the problem of natural cosmetics and their often not-so-trendy-colours isn’t because of the limitations without chemicals but more so because they often have a smaller clientele and can’t afford to have as many colors as huge brands like MAC.

There’s a trick with that Hauschka eyeliner: Just cut of the brush a bit to shorten it. The tip will be broader then, so you can’t probably draw as fine lines as before, but the handling is so much easier! So… not as ideal as a seperate eyeliner pencil but it’s fast, simpl and works too. 😉

There are many good and very inexpensive German brands (cheaper than Dr. H or LaVera): Alverde, Alterra, TerraNaturi…. I have been trying some of their products, both skincare and make-up, and I must say some of the products are GOLD to me (I found a great bronzer, concealer, tinted moisturizer…). I am extremely please: affordable and without unnecessary chemicals!
Please do more tutorials/reviews Lisa! we love it!

If you are ever in Germany, go into a drugstore like Müller. They have so many all natural make up brands, many of them much more affordable than Dr. Hauschka.

  21. carolinepaj says

that would be amazing! it should also be cruelty free!

  22. Karen Tulla says

Don’t use silicons on your skin, at least on your face, the skin is not able to breathe under a silicon layer. Google for more disadvantages. :s
