I think it can. But I heard some people razor cut it so it can make their hair look thinner.

What does razor cutting do to hair?
There are a few different ways to cut layer longer hair. For this particular style where the customer just likes to shake his head after washing the razor works best. It leaves a lot of texture while cutting length at the same time. You could also layer the hair the way you explained and go back and take the same sections with texturizing shears.

Is it not better practice to do layers by pulling 3 different sections up, top, middle and bottom, and pulling the top section upwards, the middle section outwards and the bottom section down?
