I’m no expert, but the general rule is that if they are strip lashes, they go on the lid but very close to the actual lashes. Individual lashes can be placed on the base of the actual eyelashes. The adhesive should touch both the lashes and the skin for individuals.
Not an expert, but you can use a business card or post it note behind your lashes to protect the lids or brush loose powder over your lids after the shadow. It will set the products and you can brush the excess away, including mascara flakes, after you apply the mascara. My favorite tip is simply to angle the mirror so that you look down into it. This gets your lashes further from your lids so it’s easier to apply eyeliner and mascara cleanly.

this is so ironic that i see this video today. i just bought some brand new glitter liners from physicians formula today and wasn’t exactly sure how to wear them? they came in a set of 3. blk, pinky nude, and champagne. i was wondering how the lighter ones would show up, now i know to do blk 1st. (if i can draw so precisely?? lol) also, i was using a cream shadow on the lid, then going over w/powder shadow. i found it to stick alittle to the cream? didn’t want to blend too well? does it always?
